EASTWOOD and DISTRICT MEMBERS' CENTRE

The Eastwood and District Members' Centre has a programme of lectures and outings throughout the year.

The programme for January to June 2018 is given below. Talks start at 7.30pm and are free to Centre Members. Membership costs £10 per annum and is open to members of the NTS or NT. Visitors can attend lectures for £2 (refundable on joining).

Holmwood events/talks take place within Holmwood House (Netherlee Road, Cathcart G44 3YU).

Thursday 11 January 2018
"Alexander "Greek" Thomson: why all the fuss?", a talk by Iain McGillivray (Volunteer, Holmwood House and Members’ Centre committee member).
Thursday 8 February 2018
"The archaeology of the Battle of Waterloo", a talk by Euan Loarridge, a PhD Candidate in History at the University of Glasgow.
Euan is studying the community and culture of combat battalions during the First World War. He recently acquired a Masters with distinction from the University of Glasgow's Centre for Battlefield Archaeology and has worked on several sites of conflict throughout the UK. For the past two years he has held the position of assistant finds officer at the Waterloo Uncovered Excavations of Hougoumont Farm.

"Arbella Stuart – the Queen England never had", a talk by Nan Steele (Guide at Pollok House).

"70 Glorious Years – a Celebration of PS Waverley", a talk by Ian Quinn.

Lunch and Talk at the Alona Hotel, Strathclyde Park. Jean MacDonald will give a talk entitled "Local Boys Make Good: a History of Robert and James Couper of Holmwood".
Wednesday 18th April 2018
Visit to Chatelherault Hunting Lodge, built for the Duke of Hamilton by William Adam in 1734 and restored in 1987. Afternoon Cream Tea is served in the Banqueting Hall.
Tuesday 15 May 2018
Visit NTS Geilston Garden with Lunch at Rosslea Hall, Rhu.
Thursday 7 June 2018
Visit to the Kelpies with dinner at the Gallery Restaurant.
